Intention without discipline is useless…Carolyn Myss

Sunday is a day of reset and provides us the opportunity to reflect on the week past, while planning for the week ahead.  This day of relative quiet provides us with a valuable opportunity to reset and recharge, setting the stage for a productive and fulfilling week ahead. In the midst of our busy lives, Sunday offers a precious window for self-reflection, rejuvenation, and preparation.

This is a day that allows us to pause and reflect on the events of the previous week. It's a chance to evaluate our progress, celebrate our achievements, and learn from our mistakes (so it is a great day of learning for me 😊). Taking the time to introspect and gain clarity helps me align my priorities and set meaningful goals for the coming week.

Sunday is also the perfect day for self-care. I always love to start the days early, and although I always feel like I have this entire day to run, read, tidy and rest, it goes quickly.  But this day matters when we are intentional in taking care of our physical, mental, and emotional well-being.

I spend Sundays re-setting getting grounded on a long trail run, and then spend a few hours at work getting organized in the quiet of the building for the busy week ahead.  And I also like to think about ‘the bigger picture’. Today my big picture thinking is that ‘intention without discipline is useless’.

Every Sunday I make the plans for the week, and these include physical activity, work related plans, details for work plans and family plans.  I try to make meal plans, but, as those of you who know me, know that the kitchen is not an area of strength for me, so I spend less time than I otherwise should!

We all have our lofty goals, our ideals, our ‘where we want to get to’ and merely having good intentions is not enough to bring these dreams to fruition. Without discipline, intentions remain mere wishes, devoid of any tangible progress. Discipline is the bridge that connects our aspirations to our actions, providing the necessary framework for success.  Disciple is where we build those habits and structures to be consistent in our actions that support movement towards our goals.  And embedded in the structure is self-control, perseverance and focus.

Intentions are the starting point, the spark that ignites our desire for change. However, it is discipline that breathes life into those intentions, transforming them into tangible results. Without discipline, intentions remain unfulfilled fantasies, distant dreams that fade away with time. By embracing discipline, we bridge the gap between intentions and actions, turning our aspirations into accomplishments.
