Inch by Inch...

Context can determine and demand a lot for and of a leader. Working in a place hungry for change and growth requires leadership to be risk taking and dynamic; that is, transformational. Places hungry for change need transformational leaders to inspire, create, and innovate . The team roster of past transformational leaders includes Buddha and Christ, Coco Chanel and Joan of Arc as well as Attila the Hun and Ghengis Khan. The transformational leadership style identifies the need for change and then creates the vision to guide that change. Change occurs through smarts, intuition, inspiration along with committed membership of a group. The leadership motivates, is a role model, takes ownership and interest in the project, but most of all works closely with the people working towards the overall goal. Understanding strengths and weaknesses of the group is crucial to the success of transformational leadership. The other piece in transformational leadership is to empower the staff to be less reliant on the “boss” and to be cooperative and harmonious in their own interactions with one another; this requires mentorship and coaching of new recruits.  All of this, while ensuring one has a balanced life filled with exercise, time to rejuvenate and time to take care of loved ones...no small feat.Perhaps, above all, transformational leadership requires a hunger so gracefully defined by Al Pacino in “Any Given Sunday”…(sorry Mom, there are some swears) but I can never get enough of this…
